Sia Network
280 Congress Street, Boston, 02210
Overview
Sia Network (built by Nebulous) operates a decentralized storage network where users lock Siacoin into smart-contract escrows to pay host node operators for encrypted data storage. The network houses about 450 terabytes of actively stored data, with an estimated 500–1,000 users and roughly 332 node operators. Sia’s token model (Siacoin, mined rather than ICO‑distributed) and Siafunds provide the project’s monetization, with the protocol allocating a portion of file-contract fees to Siafund holders; Nebulous also sells fractional ownership of some Siafund tokens as additional capital. The company charges roughly $1 per terabyte per month in the network’s wallets as its primary monetization mechanism. Nebulous has raised $6.3 million total since launching in 2014 and recently closed an additional $3.5 million pre‑Series A. The startup is based in Boston and plans to double staff from 12 to 24 while focusing on media streaming and storage services this summer.
