Sielo Robotics

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, North America

Overview

Sielo Robotics, founded at the University of Ottawa, develops Arlo, a fourth-generation assistive robotic arm designed to help people with physical disabilities perform daily tasks. Users control Arlo with interfaces like a space mouse and the company is working to translate diverse wheelchair control methods (eye gaze, sip-and-puff, joysticks, switches) to operate the arm. Sielo collects feedback from users with lived experience and is developing an AI-enabled system to record routine tasks to make complex actions more accessible. The company aims to make the device dramatically more affordable than existing options and covered by insurance. Sielo is currently operating from a university lab, partnered with The 8-80 Collaborative, and plans to begin in-home beta testing by the end of the year, supported by the recent $1 million seed raise.
