Silent Herdsman

51 Academy Park Unit 9000, Glasgow, G51 1PR, United Kingdom

Overview

Silent Herdsman builds a decision‑support platform based on a behaviour‑monitoring collar that uses proprietary predictive analytics to detect conditions such as oestrus and relay alerts via a farm base station to farmers' mobile or desktop devices. Its wearable collars and software are used by "hundreds" of farmers across the U.K. and Europe, with "tens of thousands" of collars in use. The company says the technology can improve animal health, increase milk yield and enhance farm profitability with rapid payback for customers. Silent Herdsman was spun out of the University of Strathclyde and launched its technology in the U.K. in 2010 after R&D from 2006–2009 supported by £4.75M in Scottish Enterprise‑backed regional development funding. It holds patents in the U.K., China, New Zealand, Mexico and Europe. The company plans to use new funding to accelerate growth, win more customers and expand the range of animal health and welfare services offered via its wearables.
