SimpleGeo
41 Decatur Street, San Francisco, CA, 94103, United States
Overview
SimpleGeo began as Crash Corp. and pivoted into a location platform run by Joe Stump (former Digg lead architect) and Matt Galligan (former Social Thing founder). The company offers a location API and plug-and-play geodata packages and has amassed over a terabyte of geodata. It is building out datasets and improving its API — including a new, faster, more redundant version with servers around the world and a new pricing model. The team is growing quickly (pushing toward ~20 employees) and has added several hires from Digg plus a VP of business development. SimpleGeo operates from a headquarters in Boulder, CO and is opening a second office in San Francisco in mid-June, with the team initially split evenly across the two cities. Management says the recent financing provides roughly two years of runway while they expand product and headcount. SimpleGeo builds geolocation infrastructure and API services for other companies, positioning itself to capitalize on growing interest in location-based applications. The company emerged from an earlier focus on augmented-reality gaming and has since shifted strategy. It remains in beta while expanding its platform and customer integrations. Founders Matt Galligan and Joe Stump are based in Boulder, CO. SimpleGeo recently raised outside capital and previously took on debt to cover expenses during the transition. The company has attracted a broad group of well-known angel and VC investors.
