Simplyblock builds low-latency, high-performance cloud storage software that leverages NVMe SSDs and low-level Linux features, with core code written mostly in C/C++. Its platform delivers millions of IOPS with sub-millisecond latency, and the company claims up to 10x faster performance and a 50x better cost-to-performance ratio versus legacy enterprise and cloud storage solutions. The company is initially targeting database users (SQL, NoSQL, vector and graph) and its first release is available for AWS users worldwide. Founders met during an Antler residency in Berlin in 2022 and the team has about ten employees, including engineers who previously worked at NVIDIA, Mellanox, NetApp, Dell EMC, Instana and Timescale. Simplyblock positions its product as both a performance and environmental solution, arguing higher efficiency will reduce data-centre energy consumption and associated carbon emissions. The €2.5 million seed will be used to expand the engineering team and take the product to general availability later in the year.
