Overview

Sinorbis started as a consulting agency and evolved into a software platform that helps international brands navigate China’s unique digital ecosystem, including language and cultural differences. The platform, launched in July last year, supports clients ranging from sole traders to ASX-listed companies. Notable customers include Nature’s Way, Sydney Airport, and BMW Australia, and about 30% of its clients are based overseas. Sinorbis says it is seeing particularly strong demand from the consumer goods and education sectors. Financially, the company raised $2.3 million in May 2017 and has now closed a $4 million Series A. The new funding is intended to accelerate growth of the platform and broaden its commercial reach. Sinorbis evolved from a consulting agency into a cloud marketing platform that helps Western companies translate products and digital content for Chinese audiences. The founders, Nicolas Chu and Allen Qu, leverage experience working with international firms to provide digital strategies, SEO, and web development tailored to China. The platform will be offered to marketing agencies to help clients enter the Chinese market while addressing differences in search engines, social platforms, and analytics (e.g., Baidu and WeChat). Existing consulting clients cited in the article include global brands LG and Philips and local organizations such as the University of Western Sydney, University of Technology Sydney, and REA Group. The company says the $2.3 million raise will accelerate the platform launch, expand its expertise to new clients, and support eventual international expansion. Chu said better-targeted technology could grow Western digital marketing spend in China from about US$4.7 billion today to nearly US$30 billion annually over the next decade. Sinorbis has also appointed advisors to its board, including ECH’s global CEO Charles Parry-Okeden and Amazon Web Services’s Head of Startup Ecosystem Ian Gardiner.
