Sixa
88 Howard St Apt 1814, San Francisco, CA, 94105, United States
Overview
Sixa offers low-latency virtual machines designed for developers, with Windows cloud computers accessible via a web browser or a dedicated app that supports USB peripherals. The company claims end-to-end latency reduced to 11 milliseconds (excluding ISP and distance effects) and offers tiered models for designers and gamers with high-end graphics cards and additional RAM. Pricing is publicly listed at $49/month or $0.49/hour, and the site provides a free trial of a few hours to test configurations. Sixa launched publicly three months ago, drew more than 15,000 developers during its initial rollout, and had a waiting list of thousands before opening its beta. The product targets devs, designers, and gamers today and is looking toward other verticals including data-rich design, secure enterprise access, and virtual reality systems. The company is a recent Y Combinator graduate and is positioning its service as a way to eliminate local hardware constraints and simplify sharing and collaboration via cloud-hosted machines. Sixa has developed a "personal computer in the cloud" that stores a user’s entire computer in the cloud, enabling access to software and applications from anywhere without hardware upgrades. The product is positioned to run demanding applications for developers, designers and gamers. Sixa says its cloud machines can dramatically speed software builds—what takes about 10 minutes on real hardware can run in around one minute on Sixa. The company estimates that for every seven builds it saves an hour of developer time, with one hour of freelance developer time costing between $40 and $90. Sixa was founded last year by Ukrainian entrepreneurs Mykola Minchenko and Ievgen Nechaiev and is based in San Francisco. It participated in Startupbootcamp in Istanbul and Y Combinator in California, securing $140,000 and $120,000 respectively from those accelerators, and recently received a $300,000 capital injection from TMT Investments. Sixa offers full personal computers hosted in the cloud that users access via a client application, aiming to replicate the feel of a physical machine while removing the need for local hardware upgrades. The product supports Windows, macOS, and Android clients and allows installation of any Windows applications; predefined machine specs include Intel Xeon CPUs, 30GB RAM, 200GB SSD, and optional NVIDIA GPUs with up to 16GB video memory. Sixa targets developers, designers, and gamers who need dynamically scalable compute for builds, rendering, or AAA gaming, and the company says its service can drastically shorten build times and extend device battery life. Users can buy by the hour or monthly, and the company reports more than 4,000 paying customers today. Demand has exceeded availability, and Sixa is admitting users from a waitlist as it adds more cloud machines. The company was built from work the team began in 2015 and is backed by Y Combinator.
