Sketch produces a design and prototyping application used by both experienced and novice designers. The product is sold via a $99 perpetual license (with one year of free updates); about one million people have purchased that license. The company has been profitable from the outset and sells organically through its own site, operating with a distributed workforce of roughly 42 people. Planned product expansions include a team collaboration feature called Sketch for Teams that enables annotations and comments, and a browser-based version later this year supporting full document rendering, editing, and developer hand-off. All of these forthcoming features will be made available to anyone who downloads Sketch, and the company says it has no immediate plan to bifurcate features for enterprise customers. Founders Emanuel Sá and Pieter Omvlee are guiding the product and strategy as Sketch targets broader team and enterprise adoption.
