SKOOT positions itself as the first and only carbon-negative lift-sharing app and emphasizes safety and compliance to avoid insurance issues related to informal paid lifts. Founded in August 2019, the startup has launched a free iOS and Android (pre-order) app and employs 12 full-time staff. Management says the product addresses rising motoring costs, disappearing bus routes and COVID-era public-transport concerns.
