Skybox Imaging develops and will operate a constellation of high-resolution microsatellites (starting with SkyStat-1 and SkyStat-2) to provide imagery of any spot on Earth multiple times per day. The company plans to expand the constellation to increase revisit frequency and ultimately offer high-definition video from space. The recent financing will fund the launch of the first two satellites and accelerate development toward full commercial operations. Skybox is using proceeds to hire engineers, operations managers, and satellite technicians and to expand strategic alliances. The first two satellites are scheduled to launch in Q4 2012 aboard an International Space Company Kosmotras Dnepr rocket. The company has raised a total of $91 million to date.
