Slated operates an online marketplace that connects independent film producers with accredited investors. The platform launched at the Sundance film festival this year and has attracted established producers such as Jeffrey Kusama-Hinte, Lesley Chilcott, and Lawrence Bender. Before launch more than 2,000 films applied to be listed and 44 have been approved so far. Slated positions itself closer to AngelList than Kickstarter: it facilitates debt and equity financing rather than donations and is an exclusive community where investors must be accredited and new members need recommendations from at least two existing members. Films listed on Slated typically have budgets of $1 million to $15 million, and some projects have secured talent such as William H. Macy, Katie Holmes, and Benedict Cumberbatch. The company recently raised $2 million in a Series B round.
