Smark is a Stuttgart-based startup founded in 2016 that offers fully automated shopping stations called the smarkBox. The smarkBox combines proprietary hardware, automation technology and web technologies to assemble and dispense a customer's shopping basket within a minute. Customers order in advance via smartphone or onsite via a touch screen, enabling contactless pickup. Demand has risen during the coronavirus pandemic, which the founders say makes the system safer and more convenient. The company plans to expand locations and grow its team, and intends to focus increasingly on intelligent software around the smarkBox. Smark recently secured €3.1 million in funding from CAMPO and Mutschler Ventures to support expansion and product development, with further projects planned in Germany and abroad.
