Overview

Smart Medical Systems, led by CEO Gadi Terliuc, develops and manufactures gastro-intestinal endoscopy devices that enhance the performance and capabilities of existing endoscopy equipment. Its flagship G-EYE® is a novel add-on balloon device that works with standard endoscopes to assist visualization of the colon and is clinically evidenced to enhance polyp detection during cancer-prevention colonoscopy procedures. The company also commercializes NaviAid™, which is CE marked and FDA cleared and is commercially distributed in key global markets. G-EYE® is currently distributed in selected regions and the company intends to expand its commercialization. Smart Medical Systems leverages proprietary technology to improve existing endoscopy equipment performance. Smart Medical Systems develops and manufactures medical devices to improve diagnosis and therapy of gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, most notably colorectal cancer. Its flagship product, the G-EYE endoscope, uses balloon technology to uncover pre-cancerous polyps hidden behind natural folds of the colon. G-EYE is currently marketed in Europe in partnership with Pentax Medical. The company has additional products under development and commercialization designed to allow standard endoscopes to access and visualize portions of the GI tract currently only accessible with highly specialized equipment. Smart is headquartered in Israel and operates in the United States through SMART GI Inc. and in Greater China through its Hong Kong subsidiary, Medico HK Limited. The company raised $6.5M in funding, with part of the investment allocated to its Hong Kong subsidiary to advance its GI device platform for cancer prevention and endoscopic surgery in Greater China, including Hong Kong and Taiwan.
