Smart Paddock
15 Cochranes Rd, Unit 45A, Moorabbin, VIC, 3189, Australia
Overview
Smart Paddock develops the Bluebell tag, the first reusable digital ear tag for livestock that operates battery-free using a super capacitor. The Bluebell tag provides GPS tracking in real time to phones and computers, sends text alerts for stray or stolen animals, and offers pasture-usage maps and activity monitoring including daily distance walked. The tag is described as lighter, reusable, longer lasting and lower cost for farmers and can run for days without sunlight exposure. Smart Paddock plans to expand production of the Bluebell tag in Victoria and further develop the technology, including behavioural algorithms to alert farmers if an animal is birthing, on heat, or in distress. Breakthrough Victoria announced a $500,000 investment to support these efforts; the transaction is co-led alongside muru-D with participation from Telstra’s early-stage investment arm, Skalata, Twynam and the Little Group. Telstra’s Industry Executive for Agribusiness, Jon Young Flores, has joined Smart Paddock’s board as part of the investment.
