Unit 1912, 19/F, Exchange Tower, 33 Wang Chiu Road, Kowloon Bay, Kowloon Bay, Hong Kong
Overview
SmartMat embeds piezoresistive pressure sensors between PVC layers to create a rollable, sensor-studded yoga mat that looks and feels like a standard mat. The mat pairs with a companion app that produces real-time heat maps and provides visual or audio adjustment guidance. The software is designed to recognize 62 yoga postures initially and to rate each posture on alignment, balance and pose, while generating an overall practice score and tracking number of poses held. The product will support three modes: a fully guided at-home mode, a class assist mode for instructors, and a zen mode that records without real-time feedback. The makers have built four prototypes testing different sensor technologies and say they believe they have settled on a winning approach. Founder Neyma Jahan says substantial AI and computer-vision work is underway to map heatmaps to poses across body types. The team aims to ship a finished product and companion app next July and has funded development via an Indiegogo campaign.
