SMi Systems is developing a multi-omic platform intended for in vitro diagnosis and biomedical research. The platform is underpinned by the company’s super-resolution optical technology, which the company says provides 1.6 nanometre spatial and 0.5 millisecond temporal resolution. Coupled with AI, the system is designed to deliver highly quantitative single-molecule measurements tied to disease and therapeutic targets. SMi says the technology could significantly accelerate the discovery of new therapeutics for biopharma companies and research institutions. The company disclosed a £6m ($7.6m) seed funding round to develop and prove the utility of the platform. SMi has also hired Dr Michael Risley as Chief Development Officer to support product commercialisation and accelerate implementation across applications from disease diagnosis to drug and vaccine discovery.
