Smooth Commerce builds mobile apps and a unified platform that let retailers' customers pay, collect loyalty rewards, and redeem discounts. The company announced a $2 million growth financing round and will use the proceeds to enhance its product, complete additional technology integrations, and grow its team. CEO Brian Deck said the financing validates the company's progress over the past year and supports opportunities in the pipeline. Smooth Commerce credits innovation partners—Ontario Centres of Excellence, MaRS, the DMZ, Ryerson Futures, and Communitech—for helping transition the company from a startup to an early-stage growth company. In the last year the company focused on product, partnerships, and market development. It expects to launch new mobile apps for Smokes Poutinerie and Basil Box, plus major new features in the Balzac’s Coffee Roasters app by year-end.
