SMPnet is a UK-based company that develops real-time control software to help traditional power grids manage renewable generation, shifting flows, and energy storage. Its platform leverages edge computers placed in substations to enable second-by-second control, adaptive optimisation, and AI-based techniques across voltage levels. The software lets grid operators control and optimise power stations, address stability issues, and improve resilience and security of supply. SMPnet was founded by Greek researchers Anastasios Rousis and Dimitris Tzelepis and currently has teams in Scotland and England. The company has raised $1.4 million from Marathon Venture Capital and angel investors including Ian Marchant and will use the funds to accelerate business development and marketing, and to expand into US and European markets. Marathon Venture Capital cited confidence in the founders' energy-sector expertise and SMPnet's integrated approach to modernising power grids.
