Overview

Snappr is a photographer and visual content marketplace that lets customers book on-demand photoshoots with as little as two hours' notice. Launched in 2016 and led by CEO Matt Schiller, the platform has grown to be the largest on-demand photography service, covering over 200 metropolitan areas in the United States. Snappr operates across the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore and has recently launched in the United Kingdom. The company acquired competitor Eversnap in August 2020. In September 2020 Snappr raised a $10M Series A to accelerate expansion of its photographer and visual content marketplace in the U.S. Snappr operates an on-demand marketplace for booking local photographers, accommodating last-minute bookings and emphasizing affordability. Price points cited include 30-minute shoots starting at $59 and two-hour shoots at $149, which the company says has driven bookings for occasions customers previously would not have hired photographers for. The startup has handled around 5,000 bookings so far, with two- to three-hour shoots most popular and common uses including internal company events, family birthday parties, and profile-picture sessions for LinkedIn and dating apps. Snappr was founded in Australia and moved to San Francisco after participating in Y Combinator’s Winter 2017 batch. It is currently available only in San Francisco in the U.S. The company plans to use new funding to expand across the U.S., launching in San Diego, Seattle, Portland, and Los Angeles within 60 days and then to the East Coast. Snappr is a Sydney-based on-demand photography startup. It closed an oversubscribed $500,000 pre-seed round on the day the government's new early-stage investment tax incentives came into effect. The company had originally planned a small family-and-friends raise but strong investor interest expanded the round. Snappr raised $200,000 in less than a month before deciding to cap the round at $500,000. Co-founder Matt Schiller said they had to close the books because there was more interest than room to take on. The new tax incentives were cited as causing a "mental flip" among investors, contributing to the increased demand.
