Overview
SnapRoute develops FlexSwitch, an open-source network operating system that lets network engineers customize commodity switches and routers for specific use cases. By separating hardware from software, the product enables operators to buy inexpensive commodity hardware and run only the code they need. SnapRoute open-sources protocol and standards components while retaining a closed-source hardware abstraction layer that it charges customers a subscription for. Founder and CEO Jason Forrester, formerly of Apple, created the product after observing hyper-scale networking challenges. The company currently has around 35 employees and plans to expand headcount with the new funding. SnapRoute says Fortune 50 companies are interested and that it has already “won some of the biggest logos out of the gate.”
