Overview

Snapsort is a product recommendation engine that began as a camera recommendation site and uses algorithmic matching to help users discover products. It scrapes data daily from retailers, manufacturers and aggregate reviews to power a drill-down interface that filters by price, model and make. The site was built in about a year by co-founder Christopher Reid and three teammates, and attracts over 5 million monthly pageviews with an average session length of four minutes and a 10% conversion rate for US visitors. Snapsort raised $500K from undisclosed investors to expand its technology into other verticals, launching Carsort.com (cars) and Geekaphone.com (phones). The company plans to be in 20 verticals by the end of the year and is targeting dominance in electronics, entertainment, travel and parenting recommendations. Co-founder Christopher Reid compares Snapsort’s data to Factual and Metaweb, saying their data is cleaner than Factual's and richer than Metaweb's, indicating a focus on data quality.
