Snaptu

50 Cowcross Street, Floor 2, London, EC1M 6AL, United Kingdom

Overview

Snaptu builds a suite of mobile applications designed for regular handsets rather than high-end smartphones, aiming to deliver a smartphone-like experience. Its service bundles social networking, news, informational and sports apps, including Facebook, Twitter, Picasa and Flickr, and is downloadable at m.snaptu.com. The app runs on any data-capable phone that can run Java — about 2,500 different phone models, according to the Israeli company. Snaptu has agreements with mobile operators to serve as an “app store for phones that don’t have their own app store” and struck a deal with AT&T two months before the announcement to ensure compatibility. The company reported 10 million registered users. It disclosed a $6 million Series B led by Carmel Ventures with participation from Sequoia Capital.
