Social Passport
4 West 37th Street, New York, 10018
Overview
Social Passport offers a social loyalty platform that uses NFC tags and QR codes to let customers interact with merchants, perform social actions (Foursquare check-ins, Facebook posts, Twitter follows) and unlock rewards. Merchants get a dashboard to create deals, set terms and view analytics such as scans, social reach and clicks. The startup launched in October of last year and won a “best startup” award at Web 2.0 in New York City. A feature called “More Friends, More Savings” lets merchants scale discounts based on a user’s social footprint (examples in the article: 50 followers/75 friends → 20% off; 700 followers → 35% off). The service is available via iPhone and Android apps and supports Reverse QR for non‑NFC devices; Social Passport also provides QR/NFC stickers, in‑store signs and a punchcard feature. The company has been deployed at more than 200 New York City businesses with an additional ~50 signed up and plans to roll out an API soon; it has raised $400K in seed financing.
