Overview

Solarise Africa is a pan-African Energy-as-a-Service company that designs, builds, finances and maintains decentralised renewable energy installations for commercial and industrial customers. The company provides reliable and affordable solar solutions across Kenya, South Africa, Uganda and Rwanda. It offers tailored financing and full-service support to enable businesses to adopt renewable energy. Solarise was nominated as African Solar Company Of The Year in the 2022 AFSIA Solar Awards. With the recent $3m investment from EDFI ElectriFI, Solarise plans to expand its team and scale deployments, particularly in Kenya where most operations take place. The company is using the financing to fund operations and grow its asset portfolio while preparing for an upcoming equity round. Solarise Africa offers innovative renewable energy leasing and smart financing solutions that reduce upfront capital expenditure for industrial and commercial customers, using manageable instalment payments and short payback periods. The company partners with selected renewable energy solution providers to deliver decentralised renewable energy production solutions that help firms mitigate grid outages and optimise costs. Solarise reports deployments and an expanding project pipeline across Kenya, South Africa and Rwanda. Management says the financing model enables African SMEs to adopt clean energy quickly by addressing a critical financing barrier. Investors and partners cite successful deployments, pipeline development and demonstrated bankability during a short period, including resilience through the COVID-19 crisis. The company intends to use new capital to fund project deployments, grow market share in current countries of operation and support further expansion across Africa. Solarise leases solar and other energy assets and provides smart financing through a group of partners to commercial and industrial (C&I) customers. The company was founded by Patrik Huber, Jan Albert Valk, and Sakkie van Wijk and is based in Kenya. It has secured an undisclosed Series A to support scaling across Africa. Existing investor EAV has reinvested in the latest round alongside the European Union‑funded ElectriFI. Solarise previously raised a Series A in October 2018 led by EAV. Management emphasizes the role of sustainable solar solutions in lowering carbon footprints and expanding access to reliable, affordable energy for Africa’s businesses.
