Overview
Barcelona-based SolarMente offers subscription-based solar energy management and installs solar panels without upfront costs, targeting individual houses where regulation and opportunity are easier. The company evolved from a pure installer to providing an energy management system and virtual battery services it prototyped after winning a blockchain-focused hackathon. SolarMente plans to build a ‘super app’ to optimize when homeowners consume, store or sell solar energy and to add batteries, EV chargers and heat pumps over time. It is a Y Combinator alum and has made its subscription solar offering available nationwide in Spain. Financially, SolarMente completed a $2 million YC seed round early on and last year executed a much larger financing that was mostly debt to fund installations; it is now raising equity seed capital to prepare for a Series A. Solarmente is a Spanish clean‑tech startup that installs and finances residential solar panels and provides end‑to‑end services including battery storage, home electrification, and energy management through a subscription model. The company eliminates the upfront investment barrier so customers can access immediate economic and environmental benefits. Solarmente operates an online-first process to simplify adoption and reports its number of installations is increasing month to month. With the new financing it plans to deploy 10,000 systems in Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia and Alicante over the next four years. Solarmente reported 400% sales growth in the last year and says it has generated more than 500 tonnes of CO2 savings to date. The company serves customers across Spain and positions itself to accelerate household transition to clean energy. Solarmente launched in May 2020 with the goal of making it easy for homeowners to adopt solar energy through technology and user-focused software. The company is developing a blockchain-based platform to let homeowners buy and sell clean energy within a community without going through traditional retailers. Since its founding it reported a 300% increase over the summer. Solarmente closed a €1.8M seed round to continue developing its service and make residential solar more accessible. After participating in Y Combinator, the startup plans to expand its team and invest in R&D to build the next generation of residential solar products. It intends to expand across Spain in 2022 beyond its initial focus on the Mediterranean coast and aims to create a community of 100,000 zero-emission homes within five years.
