Overview
Solix Algridients is an American company that cultivates microalgae to produce high‑value compounds such as antioxidants, pigments, next‑generation antibiotics and polyunsaturated fatty acids for therapeutic cosmetics. The company is opening a Russian research and development division, Solix BioSystems Vostok, as a 100% subsidiary and is investing $5 million into the project. The R&D centre is being established on the campus of the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas and has received a Lumian AGS260 photobioreactor to control cultivation parameters. Planned activities include pilot‑industrial production, systematization and study of strains held at Russian institutes (IFR RAS, IBVV RAS, MSU) and expeditions to collect wild strains in Buryatia and the Russian Far East. Initial market focus is on producing polyunsaturated fatty acids for therapeutic cosmetics; Rosnano estimates the Russian market segment at more than $1 billion. The project emphasizes scaling microalgae cultivation to industrial levels and extracting higher‑margin biochemical ingredients.
