Overview

Soloshot is a device that connects to a camera and automatically rotates to keep it pointed at the user while they surf, skateboard, kiteboard, bike, unicycle, pogo stick hop or perform other activities. The product is described in the campaign as “like having a robotic camera operator.” The team describes itself as sports-minded artists and engineers; founders Chris Boyle and Scott Taylor conceived the product while surfing and kiteboarding. Boyle has a biomedical engineering background, filed a patent at 22, and previously formed a company whose technology was licensed by a Fortune 500 firm; Taylor holds degrees in naval architecture, marine and chemical engineering and has wakeboarding business experience. The company is based in San Antonio, Texas, and includes product development and manufacturing expert Alex Sammons, plus team members Ryan Savage and John O’Callaghan. Soloshot’s Kickstarter campaign exceeded its $50,000 goal, had more than 200 backers, and had raised $53,000+ with 21 days remaining at the time of the article.
