Solubag
Teatinos 120, Santiago de Chile, Region Metropolitana, Chile
Overview
Solubag has developed a patented water-soluble technology that enables manufacture of flexible and rigid films that dissolve in water without leaving toxic or polluting residues. The company modified a gel-cap formula to produce food-grade film bags (including grocery bags and envelopes), woven fabric bags, pet waste bags, laundry sheets, and single-use items such as utensils, straws, plates, and cups. Its products are certified food-grade, can dissolve in as little as five minutes, leave no residue, and have been qualified as suitable for irrigation by Chilean authorities. Solubag was founded in 2020 in the US by Cristian Olivares and Roberto Astete and is led by President and CEO Mike Latham. In 2021 the company partnered with Pharmapacks to strengthen its North American positioning and gained distribution via Amazon.com and Walmart.com. The company intends to use recent funding to expand operations and accelerate its development efforts as it works to replace single-use plastics with environmentally responsible products.
