StrongVolt is a portable smart solar charger developed by San Diego entrepreneur Ian Sells. The product, which took about four years to develop after initial inspiration in China in 2009, automatically reconnects to devices when sunlight returns. It is designed to be compatible with Apple and Android smartphones, tablets and e-readers. Sells is seeking a patent on the StrongVolt charging technology. A Kickstarter campaign raised over $50,000 from almost 700 backers in under 24 hours; the campaign closes on Feb. 11. Kickstarter funds will be used to finance the first production run of chargers.
