SOMAÍ Pharmaceuticals operates a Lisbon-based EU-GMP-certified manufacturing facility and describes itself as the largest and most advanced cannabinoid manufacturing facility in EU markets. The company produces finished medical cannabis products and registered APIs and emphasizes scientific pharmacology applications for the endocannabinoid system. SOMAÍ recently received INFRAMED authorisation granting GMP Certificate Part I and Part II, allowing manufacture, import and export of medicinal cannabis products to numerous global markets. It is developing a comprehensive brand of medical cannabis products across multiple delivery systems and novel formulations to service doctors and patients. The company plans to own distribution channels in Australia and Germany and establish distribution partnerships in eight additional countries as it pivots from development to full commercialization. SOMAÍ has raised €5 million of new capital to fund its growth and international commercialization efforts. SOMAÍ Pharmaceuticals focuses on extraction of cannabis and the manufacture of cannabinoid-based pharmaceutical formulations, investing in research, development and distribution for the European market. The company aims to produce highly purified, separated cannabinoids that meet pharmaceutical good manufacturing practices. Planned delivery formats include capsules, transdermal patches, sublingual strips, oral sprays and drops. SOMAÍ says it will conduct studies and trials and apply rigorous procedures and quality inputs in its development work. Financially, the company received a €2.7 million innovation grant awarded by the Portugal 2020 committee to support its projects. SOMAÍ also plans to scale extraction capacity up to about 12,000 square meters, positioning its site among the largest cannabinoid manufacturing facilities in Europe.
