Overview

Somalytics is commercializing a patent-pending carbon-nanotube paper composite (CPC) capacitive sensor developed by University of Washington researchers in collaboration with CoMotion. The sensor is described in the article as the world’s smallest nano-based capacitive sensor and is highly sensitive to human presence, enabling eye, gesture, touch and fluid monitoring. The technology emphasizes lower-cost manufacturability, low power consumption, and increased sensitivity and targets applications including eye tracking, consumer electronics, AR/VR, the Internet of Things, health and wellness, safety, and transportation. The company announced $1.9 million in seed funding to launch mass production and to support continued research and development and team growth. IP Group led the funding and had provided the initial investment that helped launch the company last year; WRF Capital joined as a new investor. Somalytics moved into a new headquarters and manufacturing facility in Redmond, Washington in July and expects to begin mass production before the end of the year.
