Somnus Therapeutics is developing SKP-1041, a delayed-release formulation of zaleplon intended to prevent middle-of-the-night awakening while avoiding residual effects. The product targets people who have difficulty maintaining sleep but not falling asleep. In June 2007 Somnus entered an exclusive license with SkyePharma PLC under which SkyePharma will formulate and manufacture SKP-1041 and Somnus will develop and commercialize it. The company is advancing SKP-1041 through clinical development and is conducting a Phase 2 trial. Management has stated that the Phase 2 trial is progressing well and that the company anticipates disclosing Phase 2 clinical data in appropriate peer-reviewed forums in 2011. Somnus is based in Bedminster, New Jersey.
