SonarSource develops static code analysis products — including SonarQube (open source), SonarCloud and SonarLint — that detect reliability and vulnerability issues across multiple programming languages. The platform is embedded into development workflows to help engineering teams improve maintainability, reliability and security while reducing time spent debugging. Incorporated in 2008, SonarSource has grown its commercial customer base more than 2,000% over four years to over 16,000 organizations; a mix of its products is used by over 300,000 organizations, including 80 Fortune 100 companies. The company reports gross margins above 90% and $175M in annual recurring revenue, with a projection to reach $240M this year. SonarSource has about 290 employees and plans to expand headcount to north of 400, using new funding to double its sales force in 2022, grow marketing across offices in Geneva, Annecy, Bochum and Austin, and open a regional headquarters in Singapore. The firm competes in the static code analysis market alongside vendors focused on security and automated fixes and acknowledges limitations of static analysis such as language coverage and false positives.
