Sonara positions its technology to remove barriers such as daily clinic travel while helping care teams stay connected between visits. Since launching in late 2022, the company has helped more than 1,000 patients across 50 clinics in 14 states. Led by CEO and founder Michael Giles, Sonara plans to use new funding to accelerate payer engagement and government relations to enable sustainable reimbursement for hybrid methadone models. It also intends to invest in technology-enabled medication units—both co-located and free-standing—to expand treatment access in high-need areas. Sonara Health provides a patented remote medication-monitoring system that enables patients to take methadone at home while eliminating daily clinic visits. The system combines a tamper-evident label with a patient-facing web application to guide daily consumption and a clinician-facing web application for remote, asynchronous observation. The company plans to use new funding to further develop its platform and to partner with more opioid treatment programs. Sonara conducted preliminary market research with OHSU and Stanford that associated use of its system with improved quality of life and early signs of better treatment retention.
