Overview
Sonavex develops ultrasound-based products that provide visual and quantitative blood flow data at the point of care, with FDA-cleared solutions. Its flagship products, EchoMark and EchoSure, are entering a limited clinical release. The company is leveraging an NIH $3M grant to apply its platform to improve arteriovenous (AV) fistula success rates for dialysis patients. Sonavex plans a pilot commercial rollout in the AV access market and intends to scale to a nationwide sales launch after the pilot concludes. The company has raised a total of $13M since inception and says the newest funds will support the pilot and limited commercial release. Sonavex was originally spun out of Johns Hopkins and is based in Baltimore. Sales leadership highlights include a VP of Sales & Marketing with prior experience growing a platform to more than $100M in revenue and exit to Medtronic. Sonavex develops point-of-care ultrasound technologies to visualize and quantify critical data in surgical settings, with EchoSure designed to detect blood-clot formation after surgery. The company plans to commercialize EchoSure and advance a pipeline of perioperative ultrasound solutions. Recent financing will support commercialization and further product development. Sonavex is a Baltimore-based company spun out of Johns Hopkins and has received prior support from TEDCO and the Maryland Innovation Initiative. The company was named Maryland’s 2016 Incubator Company of the Year and has added industry veterans Bill Niland and Bob Hallenbeck to its board. Management says recent traction enabled an expanded raise and the attraction of additional talent to support growth.
