Songdrop is a web app that lets users bookmark, organize and share music and videos discovered across the internet. Users sign up via Facebook or directly and add tracks using a cross-browser bookmarklet or Chrome extension. Tracks can be organized into playlists, re-dropped within the service, or shared to Facebook and Twitter; users can follow other users and artists. The service currently sources music from open web sources such as YouTube, SoundCloud, Vevo and blogs and does not integrate paywalled streaming services like Spotify or Deezer. Songdrop plans mobile apps and potential monetization via paid mobile apps, in-app purchases for premium features and affiliate revenue, and is exploring brand and media partnerships. The company has hired a finance director from EMI Music Publishing to help develop the business model.
