The company completed an $85m financing and intends to use the proceeds to develop new products, including the sonnenCommunity, and to expand its business in the United States, Australia, the UK and Italy. Manufacturing and product development take place in Germany with operations also in San José, California. Sonnenbatterie GmbH manufactures energy storage systems with smart functions like peak shaving and remote management. Founded in 2010 by CEO Christoph Ostermann, the company has corporate headquarters in Bavaria, Germany and US headquarters in Los Angeles, California. It operates offices in seven countries and will present its US products to the local market in July. Expansion into new markets is planned to continue in 2016. Sonnenbatterie completed another round of financing of undisclosed amount led by new investor Inven Capital and is also backed by eCapital, Munich Venture Partners (MVP) and SET Ventures. The company intends to use the funds to support its growth. Sonnenbatterie develops and manufactures next-generation smart lithium energy storage systems with capacities from about 4.5 kWh to 60 kWh and above. The company’s intelligent energy storage products are sold to homeowners, farmers and businesses and are typically coupled with solar installations. Since entering the market in 2011 it has sold close to 4,000 units and reports doubling sales each year since 2012. Sonnenbatterie is headquartered in Wildpoldsried, Germany, with offices in Los Angeles and representation in Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Luxembourg and Slovakia. In 2014 the company began U.S. sales operations and is actively recruiting channel partners as it seeks to expand into new markets. Management has signaled continued international expansion supported by recent financing.
