Founded in 2015 by Dr Enokela Moses Owoicho and based in Port Harcourt, SonoCare operates an on-demand mobile diagnostic imaging service in Lafia, Sagbama and Otukpo. The company uses web and mobile resources for patient and interdisciplinary collaboration and is described by its investor as the first in Nigeria to deploy such tools. SonoCare has screened over 26,000 women from 17 rural communities and detected over 15,000 high-risk pregnancies. It reports helping low-income, rural women save $626,568 in costs that might have prevented them from seeking care. The company plans to scale operations through its mobile app and deploy more mobile units with the aim of reaching its first 200,000 pregnancies by 2020 and achieving profitability. Recent investor interest includes a $250,000 injection from Gray Matters Capital’s GMC coLABS to support that scaling.
