Overview

Sound Particles develops 3D audio software that applies graphic computing to sound. Its technology has been used in productions including Game of Thrones, Star Wars, Frozen, Fortnite and the Oscar movie Dune. Founded in 2016 and based in Portugal, the company is expanding into gaming, VR and music production. The recent funding will be used to roll out 3D audio for headphones, strengthen its presence in the gaming/VR world, and enlarge its product range in music production. Sound Particles plans to launch a sound marketplace and create immersive headphone experiences for the metaverse. The company also intends to strengthen its international market presence through a new Los Angeles office and promote organic growth. Previously it received a €400,000 pre-seed investment in 2019 and €1.25 million from the EU SME Instrument. Sound Particles develops a software suite for 3D audio design that has been used in films including Aquaman, Cars 3, Batman v Superman, The Mummy, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Ready Player One and Independence Day 2. The company was nominated for the Cinema Audio Society awards this year. It has raised €400,000 in a seed round led by Indico Capital Partners with participation from REDAngels. Sound Particles plans to use the funds to transition to a SaaS business model and to adapt its solutions for gaming and virtual reality markets. Founder and CEO Nuno Fonseca said the company intends to replicate at the sound level what computer graphics did for film. The startup is based in Leiria, north of Lisbon.
