Sounds Market operates a specialized marketplace for the sale and shipment of used musical instruments and DJ gear and, since about a year ago, also runs a recommerce operation that buys, repairs and resells items with a warranty. The company was founded nearly six years ago and handles high-value, fragile products requiring specialist logistics and refurbishment. In 2023 it has already tripled revenue versus the prior year. The recent financing will be used to accelerate international expansion and scale transaction volume in markets such as France, Germany and Italy. Most operations still occur in Spain, but management is targeting broader European growth. Sounds Market aims to reach break-even in the first quarter of 2024. Sounds Market is a marketplace app for musicians that handles instrument sales, studio rentals, private lessons, repair workshops and community features. The founders position it as more than a shop: they aim to build a musician community and add features like “Musician seeks musician.” The app has about 16,000 Android downloads and an iOS release published a week before the article, with the team expecting user growth. The company plans to begin monetizing in 2019 via a subscription model and by taking a small percentage of marketplace transactions; the founders say they do not plan to introduce advertising for now. Sounds Market was launched using the founders' own resources, received advisory support from Barcelona Activa’s Creamèdia program, and operates from Conector offices in Barcelona. In the coming months they plan to hire two programmers and a junior marketer and to improve a specialized shipping service for fragile instruments.
