Soundskrit is building a novel microphone that determines the origin of sounds using a special membrane on a custom chip, removing the need for bulky multi-mic arrays in voice-controlled devices. Inspired by the way insects detect air movement, the prototype can simultaneously separate, record and transcribe multiple voices or selectively suppress unwanted noise. This hardware-first approach reduces signal-processing complexity and preserves low-frequency audio quality compared with conventional beamforming solutions. Target markets include smart speakers, video recorders, conferencing systems and other products that require clear voice capture in noisy environments. The founding team discovered the underlying research during their studies and decided to commercialize it. Near-term plans focus on miniaturizing the prototype, extensive testing and courting large platform partners such as Google and Amazon. To fund these efforts, the company has raised a C$800,000 seed round. No revenue, customer or usage metrics have been disclosed.
