Overview
Spaceflight Industries builds satellite infrastructure, rideshare launch services and the BlackSky geospatial data platform delivering near-real-time satellite imagery. BlackSky plans a 60-satellite constellation to provide hourly revisits, with six satellites targeted by 2017 and completion by 2020; the first two Pathfinder satellites will launch this year. The company acquired OpenWhere to improve BlackSky’s user experience and broaden access to imagery for commercial, academic, nonprofit and government customers. Spaceflight holds a GSA Schedule Contract to simplify small-satellite launch procurement for U.S. federal agencies. The company emphasizes an easy-to-use, space-as-a-service approach that lowers barriers from launch to analysis. Financially, Spaceflight secured Series B financing led by Mithril and has total funding of $53.5 million. Spaceflight Industries consolidates Spaceflight Systems (formerly Andrews Space), Spaceflight Services and Spaceflight Networks to offer end‑to‑end small‑satellite products and services from development to launch, communications and operations. The company provides rideshare launch services, satellite components and cost‑effective spacecraft communications for commercial and government customers. It has launched 76 satellites and has more than 105 additional spacecraft under contract for launches scheduled through 2017, and is building several satellites for customers. The company announced a $20 million Series B that brings total funding to $27.5 million and will be used to hire engineering and software talent and drive strategic initiatives. Spaceflight expects to more than double the size of its workforce in the year following the financing. Founded as Andrews Space in 1999, Spaceflight Services was founded in 2010 and Spaceflight expanded into Spaceflight Networks in 2014. The company is headquartered in Seattle, Washington and serves customers worldwide through a global network of partners, ground stations and launch providers.
