Spacer

Level 3, 55 Pyrmont Bridge Rd, Pyrmont, New South Wales, 2009, Australia

Overview

Spacer operates a peer-to-peer and business-to-consumer marketplace for underutilised storage space, allowing hosts to list indoor and outdoor spaces and renters to find neighbourhood storage. The platform verifies users, offers a property and goods guarantee, and manages billing while letting hosts set access terms (for example, renter-installed locks or chaperoned access). Spacer launched after founder Michael Rosenbaum sold Deals Direct and spent time researching the sharing economy, including attending TechCrunch Disrupt in the U.S. The company positioned itself as a localised alternative to on-demand warehouse-focused services such as Boxly and Rocket Internet’s SpaceWays. IBISWorld estimates the Australian self-storage industry at $754 million, growing 2.3%, which Spacer aims to address with a peer-to-peer model. Spacer launched with $1 million of funding from angel investors and says it plans to expand into new categories and markets as it grows.
