Overview
Sparks is a mobile app that simplifies creating and sharing memes and animated GIFs from your phone. Users find pictures or GIFs via an in-app image search engine, add short text, adjust typeface and placement, and publish "Sparks" to friends. The app includes a news feed of Sparks, channels and tags for topical conversations (examples cited include the FIFA World Cup, sports, politics, celebrity gossip and movies), and content can be shared to Twitter and Facebook. Tags make Sparks searchable and channels make it easy to flip through what people are saying about specific topics. The company was incubated at Greylock Partners and is led by co-founders Evan Tana, Daniel Hammond and Joao Oliveira Simoes. Sparks raised $2.3 million in October and added Greylock’s John Lilly to its board.
