Overview
Speedata builds a purpose‑built analytics processing unit (APU) designed to address compute-level bottlenecks in data analytics and AI workloads. Its APU currently targets Apache Spark and the company says its roadmap includes supporting every major data analytics platform. The company was founded in 2019 by six founders, some of whom were early researchers in Coarse‑Grained Reconfigurable Architecture (CGRA) technology, and collaborated with ASIC design experts to bring the research to silicon. Speedata says a single APU can replace racks of servers and cites a pharmaceutical case where the APU completed a workload in 19 minutes versus 90 hours on a non-specialized processor (a 280x improvement). Since the last fundraising it finalized the design and manufactured its first APU in late 2024, moving from FPGA testing to working hardware. The startup reports enterprise customers testing its APU and is preparing a public product launch at Databricks' Data & AI Summit while scaling go-to-market operations. Speedata is a Netanya, Israel–based maker of an Analytics Processing Unit (APU) designed to accelerate big data analytic workloads across industries. Its dedicated accelerated processor is built to optimize datacenter and cloud-based database and analytic workloads. The APU is designed to improve performance while reducing costs, power consumption and space for cloud providers, enterprises, private datacenters and technology providers. The company intends to use the new funding to continue expanding operations and its business reach. Speedata was founded by Jonathan Friedmann, Dan Charash, Rafi Shalom, Itai Incze, Yoav Etsion and Dani Voitsechov. To date the company has raised $70M in total, including a $55M Series A and a previously undisclosed $15M seed round.
