SpeQtral develops quantum key distribution (QKD) systems that use quantum physics to generate and distribute symmetric encryption keys for tamper‑proof, computationally uncrackable communications. Its platform targets both satellite (including low‑Earth orbit) and terrestrial deployments to secure networks across governments, defence, financial services, data centres, cloud and telecom providers. The company positions its technology as a core component for building global quantum‑secure communication networks resilient to future quantum computers that could break current public‑key encryption. SpeQtral says it is supported by a multidisciplinary team of quantum scientists, cryptographers and engineers. In November 2021 it closed a US$8.3m financing to expand regional and international presence, establish strategic partnerships, hire talent, support commercial rollout of terrestrial systems and further develop satellite systems. The company frames its product as a crucial element in the growing QKD market and aims to accelerate commercial deployment with the new funding. SpeQtral (formerly S15 Space Systems) is building space-based quantum communication systems rooted in technologies developed at the Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) at the National University of Singapore. The company has licensed IP and know‑how from NUS to develop compact quantum light sources and has hired former CQT researchers onto its team. Its quantum technology aims to provide unprecedented, forward-secure protection against eavesdropping for communication networks. SpeQtral describes itself as the only team with heritage from a successful on-orbit demonstration of a quantum light source on a cubesat. The $1.9 million seed round, which was oversubscribed, will fund a commercially focused space-to-ground cubesat quantum communication demonstration mission, team expansion, and the opening of offices in Singapore and the United States. The company plans to continue developing advances in quantum communication technology and to commercialize the capability for future-proof secure communications.
