Sphingotec GmbH
Neuendorfstr. 15A, Hennigsdorf, Brandenburg, 16761, Germany
Overview
SphingoTec focuses on developing and marketing novel blood-based biomarkers such as Proenkephalin A 119-159 (penKid) and bioactive Adrenomedullin 1-52 (bio-ADM). These biomarkers aim to improve assessment of kidney and endothelial function and support management of critically ill patients. The company plans to out-license and commercialize its assays to translate scientific advances into routine clinical practice. Management intends to collaborate with key diagnostic-industry players to expand market reach, including targeted efforts to penetrate the US market. Think.Health Ventures’ diagnostics expertise and network are expected to add strategic value to those commercialization efforts. The company recently completed a financing to support global expansion and continued market development. sphingotec, founded in 2002 and based in Hennigsdorf, Germany, develops and markets biomarker diagnostics including penKid® and bio‑ADM® for prediction, diagnosis and therapy monitoring of AKI, congestive heart failure and septic shock. The company also owns the Nexus IB10 point-of-care (POC) immunoassay platform acquired from Nexus Dx Inc. in May 2018 and plans to roll out the fully automated IB 10 POC platform. More than 1,000 intensive care units, emergency departments, smaller hospitals and larger practices in Europe and the Middle East use its platform regularly, with over 100,000 tests performed per year. sphingotec is developing a pipeline of novel biomarkers intended to predict risks of obesity, breast cancer and cardiovascular diseases. The company intends to use the new financing to support commercial expansion and the IB 10 POC platform rollout.
