Spinlister operates a peer-to-peer bike rental marketplace that launched in San Francisco and New York and is New York–based. The platform aggregates inventory from individuals (about 400 bikes) and rental shops (more than 2,000 listings) and has attracted renters from six of seven continents. In its first six weeks, 25% of listers completed a rental and 25% of those received multiple rentals; listers have averaged $50 each so far, with popular bikes earning up to $100 per week according to CEO Will Dennis. The company has introduced a Spinlister Guarantee that insures a bike’s fair-value price for up to $5,000. Spinlister has raised $225,000 in seed funding and is hiring an iOS developer while looking for a Rails developer. It plans to expand to several new U.S. cities over the next six months, pursue international expansion thereafter, and roll out an iPhone app.
