Overview
Splash offers a freemium suite of event-marketing tools for creating everything from simple invitation pages to ticketed public events. At the beginning of the year Splash had thrown 200,000 events; today it says it has powered more than 5 million events. Founder and CEO Ben Hindman said Splash has powered events for more than half of the Fortune 500. The company generated $30 million in revenue from ticketing last year. With new funding, Splash is transitioning to serve enterprise clients and plans to retool as an enterprise event marketing automation provider while keeping a de-emphasized freemium product. This latest round increases the company’s overall funding base. Splash is an experiential software company that builds event-planning tools to track and optimize events at scale. Its product controls the experience from planning through post-event management and measurement. The company supports brands and technology firms to amplify event impact and reach, listing clients such as Mercedez Benz, GoPro, Nike, the NBA, WeWork, Comedy Central, Anheuser Busch and technology customers including Facebook, Spotify, Uber, Tumblr and Google. Founded in 2012 and co‑founded by Ben Hindman and Brett Boskoff, Splash is based in New York. Splash raised $6M in a round led by Spark Capital and has $7.5M in total funding to date. It plans to use the new funds for product development, innovation and to add key resources. The company also announced senior hires, naming Melissa Wallace vice president of marketing and Naoise Irwin vice president of product & strategy. Splash provides a designer-focused event platform that enables organizers to build custom event websites, manage attendees, sell tickets, and host galleries of photos, video, and social media. The product emphasizes visual customization—backgrounds, fonts, color schemes—and flexible layout of elements like talent bios, RSVP buttons, and ticket sales. Features include mobile check-in, a real-time aggregated photo stream for events, and post-event analytics. Core functionality is free, while paid à la carte Pro services offer extra customization, design assistance, email marketing, and on-demand day-of-show support. In 2013 Splash hosted 80,000 event sites with 1.6 million attendees, processed $3.5 million in ticket sales, and generated $100,000 in ticket-fee revenue. The company expected roughly 5x revenue growth in 2014 driven by enterprise deals with frequent event organizers such as Anheuser-Busch, and Facebook used Splash for SXSW and developer meet-ups. Splash is a small team of about 12 people and competes with incumbents like Eventbrite as well as overlapping services from MailChimp and NationBuilder.
