Sportpost is a London-based sports social media site that mixes professionally produced branded channels and HD video with user-generated content such as discussion forums, video uploads, blogs and content sharing. The company was founded by three Loughborough University alumni with sports-industry backgrounds; Peter Janes is cited as Managing Director. Sportpost has secured a range of commercial partners and “superstar” bloggers including James Haskell, A.P. McCoy, Carlton Cole and Caroline Wozniacki, and brand channels from Nike Football, Red Bull, Monster Energy, UFC, Laureus Sports and World Sport TV. The site also has a tie-in with Labrokes for a betting section and sources content from Brightcove. Athletes who contribute can promote sponsors and charities and may share in ad revenue; fans act as site editors for non-premium channels. In testing the user base skewed heavily male (over 90%), aged 18–40 (over 70%), predominantly ABC1 (over 70%), university educated (over 50%) and described as having high disposable incomes.
